Fungal Nail Infections

Fungal Nail Infections (Onychomycosis) are infections resulting from invasion of the nail structure by dermatophytic (skin-liking) fungi or yeasts. Fungi are opportunistic and often invade recently traumatised sites, or the nails of immunocompromised, sick or elderly individuals. Left untreated, nail infections can lead to irreversible damage to the nail matrix.

Nail Cutting

If mobility is an issue for you, I can provide help with basic nail cutting.

Ingrowing Toe Nails

Ingrowing nails (Onychocryptosis) result from either mechanical or traumatic means. These can be extremely painful and instant relief is experienced when the nail is removed from the soft tissues. An assessment would be made to discover the reason for the condition and advice on future management discussed.

Verrucae Treatment

Verrucae result from infection by one of the human papilloma viruses. (HPV) The infection is often to be caught from the floors of swimming baths, changing rooms, communal showers and like places. Depending on their location, they can be painful to live with. I can treat and advise on elimination of the virus.

Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetes Mellitus is of great concern to all health workers, but perhaps even more so to those whose principal interest is in the lower limb and foot. These parts are most distant from the heart and directly because of this spatial relationship they are most dependent upon the state of blood vessels between for supply of nutrients and drainage of toxins. Lower limbs and feet can become susceptible to tissue viability issues and regular inspection and care is of great importance to the diabetic patient.

Corn Removal

Corns are small regions of skin which have been killed off by exclusion of the blood supply. These can be extremely painful to live with and can easily be removed. I can provide an assessment and advise on their future management.

Callus Reduction

Callus typically results from torsion, tension and shearing stresses placed upon the skin and is usually more of a problem in the summer for wearers of sandals, mules, sling backs and other styles of shoe which are free to move at the heel. Calluses are easily removed and I can offer advice on their future management.

Athletes Foot

Athlete’s foot (Tinea Pedis) is fungal infection of the skin of the foot and web spaces. Left untreated, this can go on to infect the toenails. Athlete’s foot can cause the skin to turn a reddish colour and is usually itchy. I can treat this condition and advise on future management.
